In October 2015, the East Grand Rapids Community Foundation celebrated the completion of the Reeds Lake Trail Boulevard Bridge. The boardwalk replaces a more than 80-year-old structure that was too narrow for safe passage at only 5 feet wide and often flooded when lake levels were high. The new elevated boardwalk is14-feet wide and 500-feet long.
Work on the $667,661 boardwalk– funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation, East Grand Rapids Community Foundation, City of East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Township and private donations – began in August. Its completion marks the end of summer work on Reeds Lake Boulevard that included the replacement of the 80-year-old culvert and road adjacent to the boardwalk.
While the bridge project has been completed, the East Grand Rapids Community Foundation is still $30,000 short of reaching our final goal of $280,000 for this project and still need help. Your financial support ensures we are able to fund programs and projects that have a long-term impact on our community.
