The first Reeds Lake Trail Blazer was held on July 4, 2010 with 384 participants, surpassing the goal of 200 set by the planning committee. The event was held at 9:00 am to take advantage of the cooler morning hours and to complement the other activities offered by the City of East Grand Rapids 4th of July Celebration. Serious and amateur athletes are allowed to go off first, followed by the walking contingent of individuals and families with youngsters in strollers and on bikes.
Following the success of the inaugural Reeds Lake Trail Blazer, the Board of Directors decided to make it an annual fundraiser for the East Grand Rapids Community Foundation. While the 2010 event focused solely on providing funds to complete the Reeds Lake Trail, the broad community support for the event convinced the Board they had found an excellent vehicle to raise not only funds, but awareness of the organization and community spirit.
The 2011 event will be held the morning of Monday, July 4, 2011. More information will be available soon.
